A research-focused comparison of 10 major ceramic coating brands, including current flagship coatings, professional product lines, hardness claims, durability statements, warranty language and the package names you are likely to encounter while researching professional ceramic coating.
This is not a 1-through-10 performance ranking.
The brands are not ordered from best to worst. Inclusion means they are established, professionally relevant or commonly researched brands that deserve coverage in a broad ceramic coating comparison.
Placement on this page should not be interpreted as a score. A brand appearing first, second or last does not mean I consider it better or worse than another coating manufacturer.
Manufacturer claims are reported here, not guaranteed by me.
Product names, package names, hardness ratings, durability statements, warranty terms and performance claims in this guide are attributed to the manufacturers that publish them.
Published durability and written warranty are also not interchangeable. A company may advertise a coating lifespan that differs from the length, requirements or exclusions of its written warranty.

I do not necessarily agree with every marketing claim presented. My job on this page is to organize the information people are already researching and add useful installer context.
Start with the names people actually encounter.
Ceramic coating companies do not all market their products the same way. Some sell a coating primarily by product name. Others sell packages built from multiple products. Some emphasize a warranty term, while others intentionally avoid attaching a fixed number of years to the bottle.
For that reason, this guide includes current flagship coatings plus prominent package and product names that remain useful when researching each company.
Ceramic Pro
Products and package names to know
Ceramic Pro's newer ONE coating is a professional-only, single-layer ceramic coating carrying a published 7-year product-level warranty. It is designed for paint, exterior plastics, PPF and vinyl.
ION remains Ceramic Pro's two-part professional coating system. Current warranty documentation lists ION at 7 years and Ultimate ION with lifetime coverage when required annual services are maintained.
The familiar Gold, Silver and Bronze package names also remain present in Ceramic Pro's warranty documentation. Gold carries lifetime language with annual service requirements, Silver carries 5 years and Bronze carries 2 years.
Undrdog
Products and package names to know
Undrdog is widely used in professional detailing shops and actively markets its coating line to professional detailers. Pro Plus is specifically positioned as a professional-grade coating designed around chemical resistance, hydrophobicity, gloss and depth.
HCC, or Hybrid Ceramic Coating, is now Undrdog's flagship all-surface coating. The company describes it as a high-solids, resin-modified hybrid coating intended for automotive, marine and other hard surfaces.
One major difference from several brands on this page is that Undrdog does not currently put a fixed manufacturer year-count on HCC, Pro or Pro Plus. The company says real coating life depends on preparation, environment, washing and maintenance rather than a year printed on the bottle.
Coatings by the Bay currently installs Undrdog. We use Undrdog Pro for our 5-year ceramic coating package and Undrdog HCC for our 8-year package. Those are our service package terms backed by our own process and Peace of Mind Promise, not universal manufacturer-stamped warranty periods.
System X
Products and package names to know
System X identifies MAX G+ as its highest-level current coating offering for paint, gel coat, wraps and PPF.
Current System X warranty terms list MAX G+ with lifetime warranty coverage, Pro+ with a 6-year warranty and Crystal+ with a 2-year warranty when the company's installation and registration requirements are followed.
System X also continues to market a broad professional coating ecosystem with products such as Phantom and specialty coatings for additional vehicle surfaces.
Gtechniq
Products and package names to know
Crystal Serum Ultra remains Gtechniq's flagship accredited professional ceramic coating and currently carries a 9-year guarantee when installed and maintained according to the company's terms.
Gtechniq commonly pairs Crystal Serum Ultra with EXOv5 to add additional water and dirt repellency. EXO is a top coat rather than a substitute for the underlying Crystal Serum Ultra.
Gtechniq also explicitly states that stacking Crystal Serum Ultra over itself showed no advantage in its own testing. That makes it one of the more useful examples when discussing whether more coating layers automatically mean more protection.
CARPRO / CQUARTZ
Products and package names to know
CQUARTZ Finest Reserve remains CARPRO's certified-installer flagship coating. The current formulation emphasizes gloss, oleophobic behavior, chemical and salt resistance, hardness and long-term durability.
CARPRO's published Finest Reserve specifications describe approximately 3 to 10 years of durability. Its official Finest FAQ separately describes a 2-year warranty against fading, peeling or significant loss of gloss.
That is an important distinction. A published coating lifespan is not automatically the same thing as the written warranty attached to an installation.
CARPRO also offers CQUARTZ Professional and DQUARTZ-based professional systems, while products such as CQUARTZ UK 3.0 and CQUARTZ SiC make the brand unusually broad compared with manufacturers focused only on certified installers.
IGL Coatings
Products and package names to know
IGL continues to market Ecocoat Kenzo as its flagship graphene-reinforced professional ceramic coating.
Current manufacturer material describes a 100% active-material, high-solids base-and-top coating system reinforced with graphene nanoplatelets and carrying published durability of up to 5 years.
IGL also publishes a hardness claim of up to 10H on the pencil-hardness scale. That wording matters because pencil hardness is not the same measurement as the Mohs mineral hardness scale.
FEYNLAB
Products and package names to know
FEYNLAB is one of the most interesting brands in this group because several products incorporate heat-activated self-healing chemistry rather than relying only on conventional ceramic-coating durability claims.
Self Heal Plus is currently backed by a published 7-year warranty and is designed to recover from light scratches and wash-induced marring when enough heat is applied.
Ceramic Plus carries a 5-year warranty and uses some of the same self-healing chemistry, with FEYNLAB describing it as approximately 40% of the healing capability of Self Heal Plus.
Current FEYNLAB warranty terms also list Ceramic Ultra V3 and Heal Lite at 5 years and Ceramic V3 at 3 years.
Modesta
Products and package names to know
Modesta describes itself as a professional-only paint protection brand, with its coatings distributed through a global installer network rather than positioned as ordinary retail products.
BC-05 remains Modesta's flagship advanced water-repellent glass coating. Current manufacturer information publishes a broad durability range of approximately 3 to 10 years.
BC-08 is positioned as a shorter-term option for daily-driven and outdoor vehicles and currently carries a published durability range of approximately 1 to 3 years.
Again, those numbers should be read as manufacturer-published durability figures. I would not automatically convert an advertised lifespan into a written warranty term without reviewing the paperwork attached to the specific installation.
Kamikaze Collection
Products and package names to know
Miyabi Coat 2.0 and ISM Coat 3.0 remain central products in Kamikaze Collection's current ceramic coating range, with both now using carbon-nanotube-related formulation language.
Kamikaze takes an unusually direct position on coating hardness and fixed-year marketing. ISM Coat 3.0 specifically discusses the industry's use of 9H and 10H claims and instead emphasizes a softer-film philosophy with duration dependent on maintenance.
Miyabi Coat 2.0 currently publishes expected real-world durability of more than 2 years for a daily outdoor vehicle and more than 3 years for indoor-stored weekend use. Kamikaze also notes that accelerated testing exceeding 5 years should not simply be translated into the same number of real-world years.
Miyabi Coat Pro 2.0 separately publishes a 5-year laboratory durability figure, while Zipang Coat 2.0 is restricted to Kamikaze certified detailers.
Opti-Coat
Products and package names to know
Opti-Coat's current professional warranty structure lists Opti-Coat Pro at 5 years and Pro+ at 7 years for qualifying newer vehicles.
Pro3 currently carries limited lifetime warranty language for qualifying newer vehicles when the required yearly maintenance is completed through an approved installer.
Opti-Coat also gives buyers another option that is particularly important when comparing long warranties: if the yearly maintenance requirement is waived, Pro3 becomes a 10-year warranty instead of a limited lifetime warranty.
The current published cost of that required Pro3 annual maintenance is $350, making the maintenance obligation part of the real cost of choosing the lifetime-warranty path.
The bottle matters less than the installer.
There is nothing wrong with researching Ceramic Pro, Undrdog, System X, Gtechniq, Opti-Coat or any of the other companies on this page. I would just avoid making the logo your first or only buying decision.
Ceramic coating results depend heavily on what happens before the coating is opened: decontamination, polishing, surface preparation, lighting, application technique, leveling, working conditions and quality control.
The product still matters. Different coatings have legitimate differences in chemistry, workability, warranty structure and maintenance requirements. I simply believe the person choosing, preparing and installing that product matters more.
Surface preparation comes before coating chemistry.
Premium professional products can still be installed poorly.
Marketing claims need real-world context.
Maintenance still matters after installation.
Layers, hardness and lifetime warranties sound simple. They rarely are.
These are three of the most common ideas used to differentiate ceramic coating packages. They are also three areas where a single number or phrase can sound much more straightforward than it really is.
None of that automatically makes the claims meaningless. It means you should understand what is actually being measured, warranted or added before using the claim to compare one ceramic coating against another.
Does more ceramic coating always mean more protection?
Not necessarily. The number of advertised layers is only useful when you understand what those layers actually are and what the coating system was designed to do.
Some professional coating systems are intentionally designed around multiple different products. A base coating may provide the primary protective film while another coating changes slickness, water behavior, gloss, contamination resistance or other surface characteristics.
That is very different from assuming that applying the exact same coating four times automatically produces four times the performance.
A good real-world example
Gtechniq specifically states that it does not recommend stacking Crystal Serum Ultra over additional layers of Crystal Serum Ultra because its own testing showed no advantage.
Gtechniq does, however, allow products such as EXO to be applied over Crystal Serum Ultra. In that case, the second product is being used to change characteristics such as water and dirt repellency rather than simply increasing the layer count.
Do not buy a ceramic coating package simply because one installer advertises more layers. Ask what each layer is, why it is being applied and what that specific coating manufacturer says the additional layer accomplishes.
My thoughts on when additional layers make sense, when they serve different purposes and why the layer count alone does not tell you how good a package is.
A hardness number means very little without the test behind it.
One of the most misunderstood ceramic coating claims is “9H hardness.”
People sometimes hear 9H and assume it means a coating is almost as hard as a diamond. That interpretation mixes together two completely different ways of discussing hardness.
ASTM D3363 and ISO 15184 describe methods for evaluating the hardness of a coating film using pencils or drawing leads of known hardness.
This is a coating-film test. It is not the Mohs mineral hardness scale.
The Mohs scale is a relative scratch-resistance scale traditionally used to compare minerals.
On that scale, quartz is approximately 7, corundum is 9 and diamond is 10.
This is why the test method matters.
If you see 9H, 10H, 20H or another hardness number in ceramic coating marketing, look for the test method and scale being referenced before trying to compare it with another product.
Even the testing standards urge caution when comparing coatings.
ISO 15184 specifically describes pencil hardness as a film hardness test and notes that the method has not been found particularly useful for comparing the pencil hardness of different coatings.
ASTM D3363 also cautions that results can vary between laboratories based on the pencils, substrates and testing conditions being used. The standard considers the method most useful for relative comparison where coatings show meaningful differences in film hardness.
In other words, a hardness rating can be useful technical information, but it should not automatically become a universal scoreboard for which ceramic coating is better.
A 9H, 10H or similar hardness claim does not mean your vehicle becomes scratch-proof. Ceramic coatings are extremely thin films applied over the existing paint and clear coat. They do not replace paint protection film when physical impact protection is the goal.
What does a “lifetime ceramic coating warranty” actually mean?
A lifetime warranty is a warranty term. It should not be read as a promise that a ceramic coating will remain unchanged, maintenance-free and physically perfect for the rest of the vehicle's life.
Warranty programs vary significantly between manufacturers. Registration requirements, vehicle age, maintenance services, inspections, covered conditions, exclusions and even the maximum value of a claim can affect what the warranty actually provides.
This is also why I separate published durability from written warranty terms throughout this guide. A coating can be marketed with a certain expected lifespan without the manufacturer providing identical warranty coverage for that entire period.
MAX G+
System X currently publishes a lifetime automotive warranty for MAX G+ when its warranty requirements are followed.
The warranty must be registered within 30 days and annual inspections through an approved applicator are required. Missing the required annual inspection voids the warranty.
Pro3
Opti-Coat currently gives qualifying Pro3 customers a choice between a 10-year warranty with no required yearly maintenance or limited lifetime coverage with yearly maintenance.
Opti-Coat currently publishes that required yearly maintenance at $350 through an approved installer. If that yearly maintenance is waived, the warranty becomes 10 years instead of limited lifetime coverage.
Before buying a coating because of its warranty, check:
I would never choose a ceramic coating solely because the word “lifetime” appears in the package name or warranty. Read what the warranty covers, what you have to do to maintain it, what those services cost and whether those requirements make sense for how long you plan to own the vehicle.
Why I think buyers should pay more attention to the terms, required maintenance and exclusions behind a lifetime warranty than the word “lifetime” itself.
Warranty programs can change. The individual brand sections on this page report manufacturer information researched for this 2027 edition. Always confirm the current written terms directly with the manufacturer or authorized installer before purchasing.
So what should you actually compare?
Once you stop using layer count, hardness numbers and warranty length as automatic winners, the comparison becomes much more useful: preparation, installer quality, package scope, maintenance requirements, coating characteristics and whether the entire system fits the way you actually use your vehicle.
What do these ceramic coating brands actually cost near Appleton?
National ceramic coating pricing can be almost meaningless. Labor rates, paint condition, package scope, warranty requirements and what an installer includes before the coating is applied can change the real price substantially.
For this guide, I looked for relevant installers within roughly 150 miles of Appleton, Wisconsin and prioritized shops that publish enough information to understand what you are actually buying.
When trustworthy local pricing was not publicly available, I left the price as quote required rather than filling the gap with a number from another state.
These numbers are a starting point, not an apples-to-apples quote.
Ceramic coating package inclusions vary dramatically from one installer to another. A $1,200 package may include substantial paint correction, while another $1,200 price may cover primarily the coating application.
Before judging two prices, confirm whether the package includes the wash, chemical and mechanical decontamination, polishing or paint correction required before installation, as well as any coatings for wheels, glass, plastics or trim.
Warranty costs can matter too. Some coating warranties require paid annual inspections, maintenance washes or other recurring services. Those requirements may not be included in the initial installation price.
Pricing, packages, products and warranty programs can change quickly. This 2027 edition reflects publicly available information I could verify in September 2026. Bayside publicly states that paint correction starts at $600 and is encouraged for maximum gloss and oxidation removal but is not required. That correction cost is therefore separate from the starting coating prices below.

This installer publicly states that it has installed Kamikaze coatings, but coatings are selected case by case and special ordered rather than sold through a fixed Kamikaze-specific menu.
Product and coating system are selected for the individual vehicle. No trustworthy Kamikaze-specific public package price was available locally at the time of research.
Confirm the exact product, required correction, coating layers and supporting coatings before comparing a Kamikaze quote with another brand.
Undrdog ceramic coating pricing in Appleton, Wisconsin
Undrdog is the ceramic coating line I currently install at Coatings by the Bay. My pricing is built primarily around new and well-maintained vehicles, so I do not automatically bundle expensive multi-stage paint correction into every coating package.
Every installation still receives the preparation required for coating, including a full exterior detail, iron removal, clay-bar decontamination, panel preparation and a buffer-applied prep polish.
Pricing varies by vehicle size from coupe/sedan through XL truck or extended SUV. Includes preparation and coating on painted exterior surfaces.

How my pricing compares.
My pricing structure is different from many of the examples above because approximately 95% of the vehicles I coat are new and the remaining vehicles I accept are generally very well maintained.
Instead of automatically charging every client for substantial paint correction, I include the preparation needed for coating installation and only add more extensive correction when the condition of the paint actually requires it.

Compare what is being done, not just the number at the bottom.
A package that costs more may include correction, wheel removal, glass coatings, annual inspections or additional services that another installer prices separately.
Likewise, a lower price is not automatically a better value if required preparation has not yet been added.

Brand claims only make sense with context.
Hardness, layers, warranty length and durability can all sound impressive on their own. The questions below explain what those terms actually mean before you use them to compare one coating package with another.

What is the best ceramic coating brand?
I do not think there is one ceramic coating brand that can objectively be called the best for every vehicle, installer and owner.
Professional brands can differ in chemistry, application, warranty programs, coating architecture, maintenance requirements and surface characteristics. The quality of preparation and installation also matters substantially.
I would compare the entire installed service rather than choosing solely from the logo on the bottle.

They are different professional coating systems with different product lines and warranty structures.
Ceramic Pro still uses familiar package names such as Gold, Silver and Bronze while also offering newer systems including Ultimate ION, ION and ONE. System X's current public automotive lineup centers on MAX G+, Pro+ and Crystal+, with other products still appearing across its technical resources.
Instead of declaring one brand better, compare the specific package being offered, preparation included, warranty requirements and installer performing the work.
Does Ceramic Pro still offer Gold, Silver and Bronze packages?
Yes. Gold, Silver and Bronze remain relevant Ceramic Pro package terms in published warranty materials and across the Ceramic Pro dealer network.
Current Ceramic Pro warranty materials describe Gold with lifetime coverage subject to annual service requirements, Silver with 5-year coverage and Bronze with 2-year coverage. Ultimate ION also carries lifetime language, while ION carries 7-year coverage under the published warranty program.
Ceramic Pro ONE is a newer professional-only single-layer coating with a published 7-year warranty and annual maintenance inspection requirement. That is why this guide includes both the traditional package names and the newer product names.

Undrdog is a professional-grade coating brand used by a large network of detailers. Unlike some manufacturers, it does not require every buyer or installer to pass through a closed certification program before purchasing the same core coatings.
HCC is the current flagship all-surface coating, while Pro and Pro Plus remain important parts of the line. Undrdog also takes a different approach to durability marketing by not assigning a fixed manufacturer year-count to HCC, Pro or Pro Plus.
Undrdog is the coating line I currently install at Coatings by the Bay. I use Pro for my 5-year service package and HCC for my 8-year service package. Those are my package terms, not universal manufacturer warranty periods.

What does 9H ceramic coating mean?
A 9H claim commonly refers to a pencil-hardness measurement used for coating films.
It should not automatically be interpreted as a 9 on the Mohs mineral hardness scale.

Not automatically.
A hardness number does not tell you everything about a coating's chemistry, flexibility, thickness, chemical resistance, water behavior, durability or installation quality.
You also need to know how the hardness was tested before comparing numbers between brands.
9H, 10H and 20H explained →Can a ceramic coating really be 20H?
A manufacturer can publish a 20H claim under a particular testing method or proprietary scale, but the number is not useful by itself.
Before comparing a 20H claim to 9H or 10H, determine what scale, procedure and substrate were used.
The number should never be interpreted as proof that the vehicle is scratch-proof.
Are more ceramic coating layers always better?
No.
Some systems are intentionally engineered around different base and top coatings. In those systems, separate layers can serve separate purposes.
That does not mean repeatedly applying the same coating automatically multiplies its performance.
Gtechniq, for example, says its testing found no advantage to stacking additional Crystal Serum Ultra over itself.

No ceramic coating should be treated as scratch-proof protection.
Some coatings may improve resistance to very light marring or provide a sacrificial surface over the clear coat, but improper washing can still create scratches and swirl marks.
Does ceramic coating prevent rock chips?
No. Ceramic coating is not designed to provide meaningful physical impact protection from stones and road debris.
If rock-chip protection is a primary goal, paint protection film is the more relevant product to research.

No. A ceramic coating can change how water behaves on a surface and make cleaning easier, but minerals can still remain behind when water evaporates.
Coated vehicles should still be dried rather than routinely left to air dry.

They solve different problems.
Ceramic coating is generally chosen for gloss, easier cleaning, chemical resistance and eliminating the need for traditional wax.
Paint protection film is much thicker and is designed primarily for physical impact and abrasion protection.

What does a lifetime ceramic coating warranty mean?
It means the manufacturer or installer offers a warranty program described as lifetime coverage under that program's specific terms.
It does not mean the coating is guaranteed to remain physically perfect forever or that maintenance is no longer required.

Several professional coating programs currently use lifetime-warranty language.
Examples include qualifying System X MAX G+ installations, Ceramic Pro Gold, Ceramic Pro Ultimate ION and the optional limited-lifetime path for qualifying Opti-Coat Pro3 installations.
The requirements are not identical. System X requires annual approved-applicator inspections, Ceramic Pro ties several long-term warranties to annual service, and Opti-Coat's limited-lifetime Pro3 path requires yearly paid maintenance. Always read the actual warranty rather than comparing only the word “lifetime.”
Do ceramic coating warranties require annual inspections?
Many professional warranty programs do, but the requirements differ significantly by manufacturer and package.
System X currently requires annual inspections through an approved applicator to maintain its automotive warranty. Ceramic Pro requires annual service for several long-term coating warranties. Opti-Coat Pro3 does not require yearly maintenance for its 10-year path, but yearly approved-installer maintenance is required for its optional limited-lifetime path.
Always check the exact written warranty for the specific package you are considering.
What happens if I skip a required ceramic coating inspection?
That depends entirely on the warranty program.
The result can vary dramatically. Under current System X terms, missing the required annual inspection voids the warranty. Ceramic Pro's published program reduces the remaining coverage to a shorter stated term for several packages if annual service is missed. Opti-Coat Pro3's limited-lifetime path reverts to 10-year coverage if yearly maintenance is waived.
This is why I recommend reading the maintenance requirements before choosing a package based on warranty length alone.
Is coating durability the same thing as warranty length?
No.
A durability statement describes how long a manufacturer or installer expects a product to perform under stated conditions. A warranty is a contractual coverage program with its own terms, exclusions and obligations.
Those two numbers can be related, but they should not be treated as interchangeable.
Are ceramic coating warranties transferable to a new owner?
Sometimes, but not universally.
Transfer rules vary by manufacturer and warranty program. If resale value or transferring the warranty matters to you, verify the current transfer procedure before purchasing.
Does a longer ceramic coating warranty mean a better coating?
Not necessarily.
Warranty length can be influenced by product positioning, inspection requirements, installer programs and manufacturer policy in addition to the coating itself.
I would consider warranty coverage one part of the buying decision rather than a performance ranking.

How much does professional ceramic coating cost in Wisconsin?
There is no single Wisconsin price because package scope varies substantially.
In the Wisconsin research on this page, professional packages range from under $1,000 for some straightforward installations to several thousand dollars for correction-heavy or premium multi-surface systems.
At Coatings by the Bay, my current 5-year paint-only packages run $875–$995 by vehicle size, while 5-year full-exterior packages run $1,275–$1,395. Those prices include the preparation needed for installation, including a buffer-applied prep polish.

The coating bottle is only one part of the service.
Prices may include different levels of washing, decontamination, polishing, multi-stage correction, wheel removal, glass coating, trim coating, interior work, warranty registration and future inspections.
Compare the scope of work before comparing the final number.
Is paint correction always included in ceramic coating pricing?
No.
Some installers bundle one or more stages of correction into every package. Others include a lighter preparation polish and charge separately only when more substantial correction is needed.
That is one of the biggest reasons two advertised coating prices may not be directly comparable.
What is the difference between paint-only and full-exterior ceramic coating?
A paint-only package applies ceramic coating to painted exterior surfaces.
A full-exterior package may add dedicated protection to surfaces such as wheels, exterior glass, plastics and trim. Exact inclusions vary by installer.

Is the cheapest ceramic coating package a bad choice?
Not automatically.
A lower price may make complete sense for a new vehicle that needs very little correction and a straightforward coating package.
The important question is whether the price includes all preparation required for a proper installation and whether the package matches what you actually want coated.
How should I maintain a ceramic coated car after installation?
Ceramic coating still needs regular cleaning.
I generally recommend a safe two-bucket wash on a bi-weekly to monthly schedule depending on weather, mileage and contamination.
Avoid aggressive brush washes, remove contaminants promptly and dry the vehicle instead of routinely allowing mineral-rich water to evaporate on the surface.
You do not need to choose a coating brand before choosing an installer.
Research the products, understand the claims and read the warranty. Then compare preparation, installer experience, package scope and what ownership will look like after the coating is installed.
