A MORE SPECIALIZED SERVICE BY DESIGN

The focus is narrow on purpose.

Coatings by the Bay is not a general detailing shop. I focus on ceramic coating for newer vehicles, limit how many clients I serve, and work on one vehicle at a time so the service stays personal and consistent.

10

Clients per month.

I intentionally cap the schedule instead of trying to push as many vehicles through the shop as possible.

1

Vehicle at a time.

Your vehicle is not one job among several being rushed through a production line. It gets my attention from preparation through coating.

LEARN BEFORE YOU BUY

Ceramic coating is not right for everyone.

The best way to decide if it makes sense is to understand both sides. Ceramic coating does some things extremely well, but it also has real limitations that should be clear before you spend the money.

WHAT IT DOES WELL

The benefits are real.

  • Adds gloss and a deeper, richer appearance
  • Makes routine washing and cleanup easier
  • Provides strong chemical resistance
  • Eliminates the need for traditional waxing
!
WHAT IT DOES NOT DO

The limitations matter too.

  • × It does not prevent scratches
  • × It does not stop rock chips
  • × It does not prevent water spots
  • × It does not make your vehicle maintenance free
If those limitations make ceramic coating a bad fit for you, I would rather you know before spending the money. That is the point of the education-first approach.

SEARCHING BY BRAND?

Looking for a specific ceramic coating brand?

Ceramic Pro. System X. Opti-Coat. Gtechniq. IGL. CarPro. There are a lot of professional ceramic coating brands competing for your attention, and it is completely reasonable to compare them.

I have worked with and been certified through multiple professional coating systems over the years. That experience has made me less concerned about the logo on the bottle and much more concerned about who is preparing your vehicle, applying the coating, and standing behind the finished result.

MY APPROACH Choose the installer first. Choose the coating second.
WANT TO COMPARE THE BRANDS?

I already did the homework for you.

My Top 10 guide compares major professional ceramic coating brands, their products, durability, warranties, and installation requirements without requiring you to buy a specific one.

Years of seeing what actually matters during preparation, installation, maintenance, and long-term ownership.

No production line. The focus stays on the vehicle in front of me from preparation through final inspection.

THE BRAND IS ONLY PART OF THE EQUATION

A great product still depends on a great installation.

Proper preparation, application, inspection, and aftercare guidance are what turn a good coating into a good ownership experience.

That is why I would rather help you understand the process than try to convince you that one logo automatically makes the service better.

MEET GEORGE

I’d rather teach you about ceramic coatings than talk you into one.

I’m George, and I’m the person behind Coatings by the Bay. I quote the work, answer the questions, prepare the vehicle, install the coating, and stand behind the finished result.

I’m also building a growing library of ceramic coating education. The goal is not to become an influencer or turn every video into a sales pitch. I want to make the information easier to understand for consumers, DIYers, and newer shops trying to learn the coating business.

That means talking about the good, the bad, the limitations, the maintenance, the installation process, pricing, products, mistakes, and the things people usually do not hear until after they buy.

For vehicle owners

Understand what you are actually buying before spending the money.

For DIYers

Learn how coatings work, how they are installed, and where things go wrong.

For newer shops

Learn from the experience, systems, mistakes, and processes behind more than 1,000 installations.

COMMON QUESTIONS

A few answers before you reach out.

These are some of the questions that come up most often. If you want to go deeper, I have a much larger FAQ library covering ceramic coating ownership, installation, maintenance, pricing, and more.

Will ceramic coating prevent scratches or rock chips?
No. Ceramic coating is not a substitute for paint protection film and should not be sold as scratch-proof or rock-chip protection. Its real strengths are gloss, easier cleaning, chemical resistance, and eliminating the need for traditional waxing.
Can I take a ceramic coated vehicle through an automatic car wash?
I do not recommend traditional automatic washes with brushes or aggressive contact systems. Proper hand washing gives you much better control over what touches the paint and helps protect the finish over time.
Why do you only work on vehicles within the last two model years?
The service is intentionally focused on newer vehicles with cleaner, more predictable paint and fewer unknowns from prior ownership. That lets me keep the process more consistent and better aligned with the type of work I want to specialize in.
What is included in the full exterior package?
It includes the complete paint preparation and 5-year paint coating, plus ceramic protection on all exterior glass, rims, and exterior plastics and trim.
Do new vehicles still need polishing before coating?
Often, yes. New does not always mean perfect. A buffer-applied prep polish is included in the standard preparation process to improve the finish and properly prepare the surface before the coating is installed.
STILL HAVE QUESTIONS? There are a lot more answers where these came from.
