Should you actually buy a ceramic coating?
Ceramic coating is not right for everyone. Answer seven quick questions about your vehicle, expectations, and maintenance habits. I’ll give you a straightforward answer at the end.
Why you got this result
A ceramic coating can be a great product and still be the wrong purchase for you.
The quiz is not trying to determine whether ceramic coating is "good" or "bad." It is looking at whether the benefits line up with your expectations, how you maintain your vehicle, and what you actually want to protect.
I would rather tell someone not to spend the money than sell them a product that cannot do what they expect it to do.
Are you looking for easier cleaning and gloss, or expecting scratch and rock-chip protection?
Ceramic coating reduces maintenance effort. It does not eliminate washing and care.
Appearance, long-term convenience, physical protection, and lowest upfront price lead to very different recommendations.
Ceramic coating tends to make sense for a pretty specific type of owner.
You may be a strong fit if...
- You care about keeping your vehicle looking clean and glossy.
- You want washing and routine maintenance to be easier.
- You want to eliminate traditional waxing.
- You understand that ceramic coating still requires proper washing.
- You plan to keep the vehicle long enough to enjoy the benefits.
- You value chemical resistance and easier contaminant removal.
I would reconsider it if...
- Your main goal is preventing rock chips.
- You expect the paint to become scratch-proof.
- You want something completely maintenance-free.
- You plan to regularly use brush-style automatic car washes.
- You rarely wash the vehicle and do not care much about appearance.
- Lowest possible upfront cost is your biggest priority.
A strong fit for ceramic coating does not automatically mean a strong fit for my current business model.
Coatings by the Bay is currently limiting new ceramic coating installations to vehicles from the last two model years.
That restriction is about how I have chosen to structure the business. It does not mean an older vehicle cannot benefit from ceramic coating.
A three-year-old, five-year-old, or even much older vehicle can still be a great candidate depending on its condition, your expectations, and the amount of preparation required.
Current and previous model-year vehicles are the focus of my current service model.
Older vehicle? Your quiz result can still accurately say ceramic coating is a strong fit. I simply may not be the installer for that particular vehicle right now.
What you are actually buying.
Ceramic coating is valuable because of what it does well, not because of the exaggerated claims sometimes used to sell it.
Easier Cleaning
Dirt and contamination generally release from the surface more easily during proper washing.
More Gloss
Proper preparation and coating installation can create a noticeably richer, glossier appearance.
Chemical Resistance
The coating creates a sacrificial layer between the paint and many environmental contaminants.
No Traditional Waxing
You are replacing repeated wax applications with a much more durable protective system.
You do not have to make a decision yet.
If you are still unsure, these are the next places I would go before booking anything.
