BMW Ceramic Coating and New BMW Paint Protection.
A new BMW already looks good. Ceramic coating is about properly preparing that finish and making it easier to keep looking that way.
Coatings by the Bay specializes in ceramic coating installation for newer vehicles, including BMW cars, SUVs, M models and electric vehicles.
Every painted BMW I coat is washed, decontaminated, inspected and professionally polished before ceramic coating is installed.
You can also see six actual BMW projects I have completed farther down this page, including an X5 mobile installation, a BMW 2 Series, multiple new BMWs and paint-correction work on an M6.
Start with the BMW question you actually have.
Why ceramic coat a new BMW?
You do not need to wait until a BMW is difficult to maintain before doing something about it.
Ceramic coating makes the most sense to me as a preservation product.
Start while the vehicle is new. Properly prepare the finish. Refine the paint where necessary. Then install a durable protection system that makes routine ownership easier.
That can be just as useful on a daily-driven X5 as it is on a new M3, 5 Series, i5 or weekend-driven M car.
The badge does not change what ceramic coating does. It simply changes the vehicle you are trying to maintain.
What ceramic coating does BMW use?
Do not assume every BMW dealership is applying one universal BMW ceramic coating.
A dealership can offer ceramic coating, paint protection, appearance protection or another branded add-on without that automatically meaning every BMW dealer uses the same product or installation process.
That includes third-party names such as Auto Armor when they are offered through an individual dealership.
The better question is not simply, "Does the BMW dealer offer ceramic coating?"
The better question is, "What exactly are they applying, who prepares the vehicle and what am I actually paying for?"
"Paint protection" or "ceramic protection" does not tell you what is actually being installed.
Ask whether the BMW is coated in-house, by dealership staff or by an outside company.
A coating should not be viewed separately from washing, decontamination, polishing and final surface preparation.
Some protection packages combine a surface product with a larger appearance-protection or warranty program. Understand what portion of the price is actually the coating.
Is Auto Armor a BMW factory ceramic coating?
A product being offered by a BMW dealership does not automatically make it a universal BMW factory-installed coating.
If Auto Armor or another protection package is presented during the purchase process, ask the dealership for the exact product, installation steps, surfaces covered and warranty terms.
It covers Auto Armor, Diamond Ceramic and other dealership protection structures, plus the questions I would ask before adding one to a new vehicle purchase.
See the BMW ceramic coating work instead of taking my word for it.
These six projects are vehicles I personally prepared and coated. They include new BMW installations, an X5 completed through mobile service, a BMW 2 Series with paint correction, a full-exterior 8-year installation and M-car correction work.
BMW X5 With 8-Year Ceramic Coating
This 2025 BMW X5 received an 8-year ceramic coating on the painted surfaces through mobile service in Winneconne, Wisconsin.
The customer supplied the enclosed workspace and I brought the professional lighting, polishing, preparation and coating equipment needed for the installation.
It is a good example of why mobile service exists. The address changes, but the core preparation process does not.
BMW 2 Series Paint Correction + Ceramic Coating
This project shows the distinction between normal coating preparation and additional defect-removal work.
When a BMW has visible defects worth addressing, correction can be completed before the ceramic coating locks in the finished appearance.
New BMW Ceramic Coating vs Dealer Protection
This installation is also tied directly to one of the most common buying questions I hear from new-car owners: dealer add-on protection versus a dedicated coating installation.
The most important difference to compare is the actual preparation and installation, not just the marketing name.
New BMW Paint Protection
This is the exact type of project my current business model is built around.
Start with a new vehicle, properly prepare the paint and install the protection before years of washing, Wisconsin driving and contamination accumulate.
BMW M6 Paint Correction Before Ceramic Coating
This M6 is included as a paint-correction example rather than an example of the vehicles I actively target today.
It demonstrates what additional correction can accomplish when visible paint defects need more work than the standard coating-preparation polish.
Full Exterior BMW Paint Protection
This new BMW received an 8-year full-exterior ceramic coating package.
Rather than limiting protection to painted panels, the full-exterior package extends coating to exterior glass, wheel faces, plastics, trim and applicable exterior surfaces.
Manufacturer logos and stock photography do not tell you whether an installer has prepared and coated the vehicles they claim to specialize in. These videos let you see real BMW projects from my own portfolio before making a decision.
The main ceramic coating gallery includes many additional cars, trucks and SUVs I have personally completed.
A brand-new BMW still gets polished before ceramic coating.
Polishing is part of proper coating preparation. Paint correction is additional defect removal.
Those terms should not be used interchangeably.
Prep Polish
Every painted BMW I ceramic coat receives a buffer-applied preparation polish.
The goal is to refine the finish and create the consistent surface I want before final panel preparation and coating.
This applies even when the BMW is brand new.
Paint Correction
Additional paint correction is used for visible defects such as swirl marks, scratches, haze or other imperfections that you want improved beyond the normal prep polish.
It is optional.
I do not automatically sell more aggressive correction simply because you bought an expensive BMW.
A BMW has already been manufactured, transported, stored, washed and handled before you take delivery. I inspect the actual finish under professional lighting rather than assuming the paint is perfect because the odometer is low.
What happens before the ceramic coating goes on.
Dirt and normal road film are removed before detailed surface preparation begins.
Embedded iron and appropriate contamination are addressed.
Remaining bonded contamination is safely removed.
Professional lighting reveals the actual condition of the BMW's finish.
Every painted surface being coated is professionally polished.
Additional defect removal is discussed only if something is worth improving.
Polishing oils and residue are removed before coating.
The selected coating is installed on the surfaces included with your package.
The finished BMW is inspected again before the installation is considered complete.
X Series, sedans, coupes, M cars and BMW electric vehicles.
There is no separate bottle of coating required because the BMW happens to be an X5 instead of an M3. Vehicle size, surface materials, paint condition and selected coverage are what change the installation.
BMW X5 Ceramic Coating
The X5 is one of the most natural BMW candidates for ceramic coating because it combines a large painted exterior with substantial glass, wheels and trim.
Watch My X5 Installation →BMW X3 and X1 Ceramic Coating
Smaller BMW crossovers receive the same preparation standards and can be protected with paint-only or full-exterior packages.
BMW X7 and X6 Ceramic Coating
Larger BMW SUVs have considerable exterior surface area, which can make easier washing and long-term protection particularly valuable.
BMW 2 Series Ceramic Coating
Compact BMW coupes and sedans receive the same decontamination, polishing and coating preparation used on larger vehicles.
Watch My 2 Series Project →BMW 3 Series and 4 Series Ceramic Coating
Daily-driven BMW sedans and coupes see bugs, road film, salt and frequent washing. Ceramic coating is primarily about making those ownership realities easier to manage.
Luxury BMW Sedan and Coupe Protection
Owners can keep the package focused on painted surfaces or extend protection across the full exterior depending on how complete they want the installation to be.
M2, M3, M4 and M5 Ceramic Coating
M cars do not need exaggerated promises. They need careful paint inspection, appropriate polishing and a coating installation that respects the finish.
BMW i4, i5, i7 and iX Ceramic Coating
Electric BMW models can receive the same professional exterior coating process as conventional BMW vehicles.
New BMW Protection Is Not Limited to This List

This project shows the difference between protecting only painted surfaces and building a more complete exterior package.
Current pricing is handled through the calculator so you can see the package based on your BMW's size, coating term and selected exterior coverage rather than relying on an old price buried on a webpage.
The answer depends on what you expect it to do.
Buying a BMW does not automatically mean ceramic coating is a smart purchase.
It makes sense when easier washing, gloss, chemical resistance and long-term exterior protection line up with your goals.
