What exactly is IGL Kenzo?
Kenzo is IGL Coatings' flagship professional automotive coating.
The current Kenzo is a two-part, graphene-reinforced, high-solids coating system rated for up to five years.
IGL describes Kenzo as containing 100% active material with no solvent in the finished formulation and positions the product around gloss, hydrophobicity, water-spot resistance, chemical resistance and reduced micro-marring.
The current kit contains separate base and top components rather than functioning as a simple one-bottle application.
It is also restricted to professional installers who have completed Kenzo-specific training.
IGL says Kenzo can be used on gloss or matte paint and is compatible with PPF and vinyl.
None of those characteristics change the fundamental limitation shared by ceramic coatings: the coating does not turn paint into an impact-resistant material.
What do those two marketing terms actually mean?
Neither term means the paint is scratch-proof.
IGL's current Kenzo incorporates graphene nano-platelets and attributes improvements in durability, water behavior and water-spot resistance to the graphene-reinforced formulation.
The company also advertises Kenzo as reaching up to 10H on the pencil-hardness scale.
Pencil hardness measures how a cured surface responds to a standardized test. It is not the same thing as saying keys, branches, car washes, shopping carts or road debris cannot scratch the vehicle.

A $1,200 Kenzo installation that includes meaningful correction is not directly comparable with a $1,200 package intended for already-clean new paint.
The cost of ceramic coating depends heavily on labor and preparation , not simply on the wholesale cost of the coating.

What does the current U.S. Kenzo program actually say?
IGL's U.S. terms refer to Kenzo's coverage as a durability rating rather than relying only on a simple “5-year warranty” headline.
Up to 60 months
Current U.S. terms rate properly installed and maintained Kenzo for up to five years.
100,000 km mileage limit
The published durability period is also limited to 100,000 kilometers.
Inspection every six months
Current terms say the vehicle should be inspected by an IGL Kenzo installer every six months.
Report a failure promptly
The published terms say the installer should be informed within 14 days when a qualifying failure occurs.
Original purchaser only
The durability rating is personal to the purchaser and is not transferable or assignable.
Commercial vehicles excluded
Current U.S. durability terms state that the rating does not apply to vehicles used for commercial purposes.

Ask what those visits will actually cost.
IGL's terms call for inspection every six months and say that if cleaning is required before the inspection, the customer is responsible for that cleaning cost.
That does not automatically make the program expensive, but the inspection schedule should be part of the purchase decision.
Ask the installer exactly what a six-month inspection involves, whether a maintenance wash is required and what the typical service costs before choosing the package.
Kenzo and PPF protect against different problems.
IGL's own U.S. terms explicitly exclude chips, scratches and other mechanical damage.
That makes the distinction unusually clear.
Ceramic coating can help with chemical exposure, UV-related degradation, easier cleaning, gloss retention and some resistance to fine marring.
It does not absorb a rock impact the way a urethane paint protection film can.
